Mileage Traveled: 273 km
Santa Maria, California to Monterey, California
We left Santa Maria and headed to Pismo Beach as we had heard there was an antique car show there all weekend. Everyone else on the road seemed to be heading there as well! You see the show here: http://www.thepismobeachclassic.com/home.html
We next headed to Morro Bay which for the first time ever I was able to see the actual huge rock in the harbour:
It’s actually a very picturesque little town and it was wonderful to see it in the sunshine.
Next we rode through equally scenic Cambria. Then we headed to San Simeon. The manager at the Best Western in Santa Maria had told us about the best hamburgers ever...and that they were at Sebastian’s Store in San Simeon. He told us the store was right across the street from the San Simeon Mission and near the pier....and there it was! We waited in line to order with about a dozen others who arrived when we did. The burger was quite legendary! Big, juicy, wonderful! The beef comes from the Hearst Ranch... http://www.hearstranch.com/ ... (Hearst Castle is up on the hill behind). Hearst Ranch also has a winery in the same building - http://www.hearstranchwinery.com/index.html .
Dennis got a Fat Tire and I got a Pepsi in a glass bottle! Too cool...it was bottled in Mexico.
The San Simeon post office which is 130 years old is also located in the same nostalgia filled building.
Next stop was to view the elephant seals at Piedras Blancas just north of San Simeon.
Beautiful isn’t it...those aren’t logs on the beach...they are elephant seals:
This is going to sound so random, but Pepsi bottled in Mexico is made with actual sugar, no high fructose corn syrup or aspartame. It's the only kind of soda allowed in my house.
