About the Author
Elizabeth Elwood is the artistic director of Elwoodettes Marionettes. She has won awards for writing, composing, and performing. Her first stage play, Casting For Murder, was produced in 2000, followed by her comedy, Renovations, in 2004. Born in England, Elizabeth lives with her husband and family in Vancouver, British Columbia.
My Review
Elizabeth Elwood is a local author who writes collections of short stories. Her mysteries focus on the world of actors, actresses and the theatre world which is a world Ms. Elwood is very familiar with. Her knowledge of the workings of the theatre world shines through in her stories. The first short story To Catch An Actress is particularly clever. The stories feature the entire Beary family but mainly Bertram Beary who is a Vancouver city councilor, his opera-singing daughter, Philippa, and his detective inspector son, Richard.
The book of cozy mystery short stories are set in Vancouver which adds to the reading pleasure for me. I learned a lot about behind the scenes happenings at live theatre and opera settings. I enjoy the family dynamics of the Beary family.
I do recommend this lovely book of short stories. Next up to read from Elizabeth Elwood are A BlackTie Affair and Other Mystery Stories and The Beacon and Other Mystery Stories.
