About the Author

LOVELLA SCHELLENBERG enjoys farm life together with her husband, Terry, near the west coast of British Columbia. Having been married thirty-eight years, they are enjoying this season of their life with both sons married and the blessing of daughters-in-laws and five delightful grands. They love camping near the beautiful coastal beaches and in the mountains. Picking ripe produce from her vegetable garden, taking in the fragrance of fresh roses, and watching storm clouds remind her that she is surrounded by God’s beautiful creations and blessings. Lovella and Terry are members of Northview Community Church in Abbotsford, where they mentor couples preparing for marriage.

My Review

Bread for the Journey: Meditations and Recipes to Nourish the Soul, is the latest book from the Authors of the Mennonite Girls Can Cook blog. Previously they wrote and published Mennonite Girls Can Cook and Mennonite Girls Can Cook Celebrations. Both books are fabulous.  I use them all the time.Their blog is filled with delicious recipes. They also feature devotions or meditations on Sundays on the blog. I look forward to their blog every day.

Bread for the Journey: Meditations and Recipes to Nourish the Soul is a beautiful book that features thirteen weeks of devotions or meditations that help women on their Christian journey.

First the recipes. The book features recipes both old and new. For example, old, they present zwieback (double buns...everyone has their own recipe passed down from their Oma); new - Quinoa Cake Brownies. I am ready to make the Strawberry Sheet Pie right now!

I loved the meditations.  There are stories new and old as well. I was part of a Mennonite family for many years and the stories of survival and perseverance in the past are very familiar. Many of the meditations are from present experiences as well. Each meditation begins with a bible verse, then the meditation, followed by a prayer and a thought to savor. Lovely book. I really liked Week 7, Day 4 based on This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
—PSALM 118:24 (ESV)

Bread for the Journey: Meditations and Recipes to Nourish the Soul is a must have for Mennonite women. It would also recommend it for all Christian women. They will be inspired and nourished by the meditations. They will love the recipes as well.

Highly recommend.
