Book Description

Can first love turn into the real deal in a sizzling new Fool's Gold story from New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery? Isabel Carlisle thinks she's cursed in the romance department. Her teenage crush, Ford Hendrix, ignored all her letters. Her husband left her for another...man. So Isabel has come home to dust off her passion for fashion and run the family bridal shop until her parents are ready to sell it. Then she'll pursue her real dreams. At least, that's the plan, until sexy, charming Ford returns and leaves her feeling fourteen all over again....

Seeing Isabel all grown up hits bodyguard trainer Ford like a sucker punch. Back when heartbreak made him join the military, her sweet letters kept him sane. Now he can't take his eyes-or his lips-off her. The man who gave up on love has a reason to stay in Fool's Gold forever-if three little words can convince Isabel to do the same...

Book Description

“America’s best novelist” (The Denver Post) and “the reigning champ of nostalgia noir” (The New York Times Book Review) introduces his most evil character yet in the twentieth thriller in the bestselling Dave Robicheaux series.A New York Times bestselling author many times over, James Lee Burke is a two-time Edgar Award-winner whose every book is cause for excitement, especially those in the wildly popular Dave Robicheaux series.

In Light of the World, sadist and serial killer Asa Surrette narrowly escaped the death penalty for the string of heinous murders he committed while capital punishment was outlawed in Kansas. But following a series of damning articles written by Dave Robicheaux’s daughter Alafair about possible other crimes committed by Surette, the killer escapes from a prison transport van and heads to Montana—where an unsuspecting Dave happens to have gone to take in the sweet summer air, accompanied by Alafair, his wife Molly, faithful partner Clete, and Clete’s newfound daughter, Gretchen Horowitz, whom listeners met in Burke’s most recent bestseller Creole Belle.

“James Lee Burke remains the heavy weight champ,” says New York Times bestseller Michael Connelly, “a great American novelist whose work…is unsurpassed.” The master proves it once again with this harrowing novel that examines the nature of evil and pits Dave Robicheaux against the most diabolical villain he has ever faced.

About the Author

James Lee Burke, a rare winner of two Edgar Awards, and named Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America, is the author of thirty-one previous novels and two collections of short stories, including such New York Times bestsellers as The Glass RainbowSwan Peak, The Tin Roof Blowdown, Last Car to Elysian Fields, and Rain Gods. He lives in Missoula, Montana.

My Review

I am honored once again to be able to review a new James Lee Burke novel before its publication date. In Light of the World, Dave Robicheaux, his wife Molly and daughter Alafair along with Clete Purcell and his daughter Gretchen are visiting an old friend Albert in Montana. They are all recovering from the events in Creole Belle which is where we met Gretchen for the first time.

Evil is lurking around every corner.  Wyatt Dixon from the Billy Bob Holland novels returns.  New villain Asa Surrette who has a bone to pick with Alafair. And the Younger family...as evil as they come. Dave and Clete's great friendship continues as they continue to fight their personal demons while bonding with their adult daughters.

Author Burke once again reminds us how close by evil is at all times.  And of the struggles we all live with every day. And does throw in some environmental warnings just to keep us on our toes. Burke has a new found love of the Canadian Rockies that he shares once again but reminds everyone that Canadians continue to exploit their resources oblivious to the beauty around them.

An excellent addition to the Dave Robicheaux series.  Filled with rich, familiar characters, twists, and action packed, fans of this series will be thrilled to be riding along with the Bobsey Twins from Homicide as the adventure continues. Only a few more weeks until it is released on July 23rd.

Book Description

The latest installment of the New York Times bestselling Spellman mysteries, finds private investigator Izzy Spellman on the verge of losing everything.Isabel Spellman is used to being followed, extorted, and questioned—all occupational hazards of working at her family’s firm, Spellman Investigations. Her little sister, Rae, once tailed Izzy for weeks on end to discover the identity of her boyfriend. Her mother, Olivia, once blackmailed Izzy with photographic evidence of Prom Night 1994. It seemed that the Spellmans would lay off after Izzy was fired for breaching client confidentiality, but then Izzy avenged her dismissal by staging a hostile takeover of the company. She should have known better than to think she could put such shenanigans behind her.

In The Last Word, Izzy’s troubles are just beginning. After her hostile takeover of Spellman Investigations, Izzy’s parents simply go on strike. Her sister, Rae, comes back into the family business with questionable motivations. Her other employees seem to be coping with anxiety disorders, and she has no idea how to pay the bills. However, her worst threat comes from someone who is no relation. Within months of assuming control of the business, Izzy is accused of embezzling from a former client, the ridiculously wealthy Mr. Slayter, who happens to have Alzheimer’s, which Izzy and he are diligently trying to keep under wraps. Not only is Slayter’s business and reputation on the line, but if Izzy gets indicted for embezzlement, she’ll lose everything—her business, her license, and her family’s livelihood. Is this the end of Izzy Spellman, PI? The answer makes The Last Word, hands down, the most thrilling book in this bestselling, award-nominated series.

My Review

Lisa Lutz has an amazing talent on top of her crazy imagination! I love reading her very entertaining mysteries. This book could stand alone but don't be silly...read this entire series. If you have the previous five then you know that you cannot dive into Izzy Spellman's crazy world.

This outing involves a hostile takeover of Spellman Investigations then embezzlement and is topped off by a family crisis.  Izzy's niece Sydney is another crazy addition to the family but her existence does allow for Izzy to meet someone new. Rae, zzy's sister, is as intriguing as ever in The Last Word.

I highly recommend the latest edition of the Spellman Files.  The Last Word is entertainment at its best.  I think Izzy might finally be on the road to growing up.  But do we want her to?

Pick up a copy July 9th...great summer reading!
